History & Background
Built in the 15th century by Inca Emperor Pachacuti, Machu Picchu was an elite mountain retreat. Abandoned during the Spanish conquest, it remained hidden from the outside world until Hiram Bingham publicised it in 1911.
How to Arrive
Take a train from Cusco or Ollantaytambo station to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo), then ride the official Consettur bus up to the archaeological park entrance.

- Book your entrance tickets and train tickets at least 2-3 months in advance.
- Bring your original passport; you cannot enter without it.
